Whether it’s a demanding job, a school deadline, or family responsibilities stress is an unavoidable part of our daily lives. In addition to these daily stresses our lives can often be interrupted by more unexpected and traumatic life events such as an illness, accident or loss of a loved one. Within our bodies we have an innate response to stress that allows us to respond to such difficult situations. This “fight or flight” response is an activation of the sympathetic nervous system causing physical changes in heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate and muscular contractions giving you the focus, strength, reaction time and stamina to meet the present challenge. However, when this stress becomes chronic and the body is not given the opportunity to discharge the energy created by the stress response we become less resilient to the next experience. Over time, this pattern can begin to cause significant health risks to both mind and body.
Stress management has become very popular as we have come to acknowledge the consequences of related illnesses. Health clubs, yoga studios, and wellness programs are filled with people trying to manage the effects of stress in their daily lives or heal after a traumatic event. These are all effective and necessary strategies to include in our wellness routines but there is actually an even more accessible approach rooted within the wisdom of our own bodies. This practice is TRE® (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises).
TRE® is a series of exercises that prepare the body to release deep and chronic muscular tension patterns caused by the stress response. These exercises stimulate a neurogenic tremor that is present in all mammals. The shaking or vibrating that occurs allows the body to discharge the energy created by the fight or flight response and consequently releases muscular tension and regulates the nervous system.
With the guidance of a certified TRE® provider this body based (somatic) practice is a safe and effective way to release stressful or traumatic experiences without the risk of re-traumatization because the body’s ability to release is not dependent on a retelling of the experience. TRE® is an effective therapy on it’s own but can be paired with other healing modalities such as Qigong, acupuncture, meditation, massage, etc. to further expand on the numerous benefits.
TRE® was developed by Dr. David Berceli while working in numerous conflict regions such as Africa and the Middle East. TRE® is a safe and effective stress release technique for most people. The TRE® process should not be used as a substitute for trauma recovery procedures of a medical or psychological nature. Individuals who have physical or psychological/psychiatric conditions that require strict regulation, individuals with fragile psychological defenses, a complex history of trauma or restricting physical or medical limitations should consult their medical practitioner or a Certified TRE® Provider prior to performing these exercises.
This series (three 60 minute classes) is an opportunity to learn TRE® with individual support and guidance. These sessions will include instruction on how to complete the exercises and become attuned to self-regulation. There will be ample opportunity for mindful reflection and Q&A. This prepaid package is only available for first time clients.
This series (three 60 minute classes) is open to those clients who have already completed a Beginner series and are looking for an opportunity to deepen their TRE® practice with continued individual support and guidance. Touch and non-touch interventions will be introduced in this series. There will be continued ample opportunity for mindful reflection and Q&A. This prepaid package can be purchased multiple times based on individual needs.
These sessions are available for clients with more ongoing individual needs.
This is an opportunity to work in small groups of friends, family, or co-workers while still maintaining individualized attention. These sessions are open to 2 or more people.
